History of UCTC

Chittagong, one of the oldest port-cities of the world, is renowned to the traders for having a natural harbor. Moreover, it is the second largest city of Bangladesh and also regarded as commercial capital city. The city is truly a place of attraction with its surrounding mountains and rivers. In the 17th Century, it was the most famous port of the Indian Sub-continent. Portuguese traders and adventurers used to call it ‘Porto Grande’ or the great port, while Hoogli port was termed ‘Porto Picono’ or small port. Today, Chittagong is the largest port of Bangladesh. It is, in fact, the heart of the economy of Bangladesh.

By nature, people in Chittagong are generous and hospitable. Chittagong has been the cosmopolitan of various cultures. Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians and even Animists are found to be mingled mutually for hundreds of years. Long before the Muslims established their rule over the sub-continent, many Muslim sufi-saints kept their footstep in Chittagong and preached their message of love. History revealed that Buddhists had a famous University in Chittagong which got worldly fame as ‘Pundit Bihar’. Sitakunda is recognized as one of the antique sanctuaries of the believers of Hindu religion. Moreover, Chittagong belongs to the heritage of Portuguese culture in its many churches and buildings.

To seek material wealth and spiritual solace, Chittagong has become place where people roam for years. Unique educational, artistic and folk traditions make this city a name which is uttered universally. Bangla Literature has been enriched to a great extent by the contribution of poets, writers and scholars from Chittagong. Chittagong occupied a special place in anti-colonial movement and in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.

University of Creative Technology Chittagong (UCTC) is one of the newest technology based Government and UGC approved private universities in Bangladesh. The credit for establishing this University goes to University of Creative Technology Chittagong Trust (UCTCT), the founder organization of the University, all the members of this trust, and specially Mr. Mohammad Osman who is the dreamer of this University. UCTCT is a non-political and non-profit oriented voluntary organization, registered in December 2014, under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Seeing the absence of institutions of higher learning based on technology and with innovative vision, UCTCT responded to the need for a university under private initiative in the public sector. The Trust discussed the concept of a private technological university in this region with a group of intellectuals, thinkers, and educationists, from home and abroad. Dedicated and creative personalities came forward to materialize the dream of such an institution by putting their ideas, energies and fulfilling other requirements. On June 17, 2015 University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) visited this university for inspection and provided satisfactory report on campus and necessary documents.
